Finding the story within the data.
Today we started a new module about data visualization and storytelling which I am very excited about. Our industry leader provided us with a data set and the task was to see if we could find anything interesting in the data. The data set was a sex survey conducted by Aftonbladet. You can take a look at a few accompanying news articles. Needless to say, there were lots and lots of data to wade through but we stumbled upon something interesting.
There was one question that asked "How often do you feel pressured to have sex?" We decided to look at this data by the sex variable and we saw that more women than men feel more pressured to have sex. How could this be in a country that prides itself on its gender equality? Sweden consistently ranks within the top 5 of best places to live in the world for women. (Reference: The Global Gender Gap Report).
Even with this small data set, there was a definite gap between the numbers of men and women and the pressure to have sex. It would be interesting to see if the gap would change if we had more data to work. Also, how could we measure and analyze a person's definition of "pressure"? Sometimes the most interesting insights in a data set leads to more questions.
