Hyped for Hyper Island!

The deadline to apply for Hyper Island's Stockholm programs is coming up this week and I remember from my own experience how hard it was to choose between the different programs. Now, I can't help to be biased towards the Digital Data Strategist program.  We learn so many different skills during the course of our time in school but we students are individuals and you get out of your education what you put into it.

Starting in the fall, the DDS program will be 2 years not 1 1/2 year.  From my understanding, the extra time will be spent learning more skill-building even though I have yet to see the actual curriculum to confirm this. Nevertheless, I will outline the curriculum that we currently have.

There are a total of 9 projects or modules during the school year plus an internship. They are as follows:

Project 1: Program Foundation

These first 4 weeks will serve as the foundation for your Hyper Island education. Students learn about self-reflection, feedback, active listening, and teamwork.  Students will focus on processes for ideation and the tools for team-building.

Project 2: Data and Business

Explores basic data collection, analysis, and visualization methodologies. Students will explore different business models and revenue streams.

Project 3: Project Toolbox

The students will build prototypes or services on top of other people’s work and learn why this is a valid business strategy. This is done by working hands-on with front-end code & and using API’s and or scraping techniques.

Project 4: Monitoring and Reporting

Focus on working with clients and solve real business problems with data. Explore how to use sets of data to build estimates, tests, and tactical actions to meet strategic objectives. Identify strategic changes to existing business models and revenue flows based on data and to implement them within an organization.

Project 5: Storytelling and Visualization

Students will use a data set (data sets) to find a story or business requirements to visualize in an artistic manner. They will be exposed to design principles, how to choose and structure information and communicate it as effective as possible.

Project 6: Portfolio

Students will individually work on personal portfolios. You will learn about personal branding management and how to sell yourself professionally.

Project 7: Data Driven Marketing

Investigate the trends within marketing and understand how measurability will change the view of marketing for most businesses.

Project 8: Business Optimization

Evaluate a client's business objectives based on analysis and insights found in data. Analyze the client’s own and public data, in order to identify challenges and opportunities, examine the wider business context and relevant value chains to suggest changes to existing business models and revenue flows.

Project 9: Value Generation

Explore and challenge entrepreneurial thinking around data, capitalization on opportunities stemming from data, and navigation of business culture and environments.

Internship: 19 weeks, full-time

Students search for internships in the industry.
